Sharing a Terrifying Experience That’s Been Happening Since Childhood[1] My writing sucks, and this is probably going to be long, but if anyone’s willing to listen… Are you interested?

[1] This might be long, but I can’t sleep, so keep me company? Ah, maybe this is bad (Unresolved)
- [2] Yeah
- [3] Go on, tell us.
[4] I’m just a totally ordinary, single 34-year-old guy, but lately, it’s been the busy season, and I’d been working pretty much non-stop day and night for about 3 days straight. During my night shift yesterday, I thought, “This is getting dangerous, I’m gonna die,” so I went back to my apartment (I live alone), took a quick shower, and collapsed onto my bed.
- [6] Okay
[8] Then, I woke up, maybe around 6 PM? It was kind of dim. And I found myself in a room I didn’t know. I couldn’t grasp the situation at all. I managed to sit up and looked around. It seemed like a normal apartment room, but then I heard rustling sounds coming from the back of the room.
[14] I watched for a while, just staying put, and then a young woman came out from the direction of the noise. She said something to me, but it sounded like she was talking underwater; I couldn’t understand a word. A strange woman in a strange room… I got really scared, and a weird sweat broke out.
[17] I just bolted, ran desperately towards the entryway, and got outside without even putting on my shoes. Then, trying to get a grip on the situation, I ran for a bit and sat down on a parking block in a coin parking lot to try and think things through.
In Japanese homes, it’s customary to remove shoes at the entrance (genkan) before entering the main living area. Therefore, running outside without shoes is seen as an action indicating extreme confusion or an emergency situation.
[19] But when I really thought about it, the place I just ran out of was definitely my own apartment, the woman in the house was my girlfriend, and I’m not even 34 in the first place. Has my mind gone completely haywire?

- [20] Huh?
- [21] ???
- [23] Lol (haha)
[24] I mean, I was watching the situation from my bed for about 15 minutes, so it wasn’t like I was half-asleep or anything. I was very calmly convinced I was in an unknown place with a stranger.
- [25] Someone with insomnia here. I think it’s a brain malfunction due to the stress of not sleeping. It’s common to lose your judgment of right/wrong or your current situation when you haven’t slept.
[27] >>25 Maybe that’s it. I was completely convinced I was someone else, so even when I look in the mirror, my own face feels kinda off, and even back in my own apartment, it feels like someone else’s place and I can’t relax.
- [26] How old are you really?
[28] >>26 24. I don’t know why I thought I was that age, but there was a clear profile of someone else in my head.
- [29] You’re the scary one.
- [30] Seriously, you should probably go see a counselor, really.
[34] >>30 Well, now that I’m back to my senses, I know I’m me, and I can accept that this is my home.
- [35] Made some coffee, here you go.
[36] >>35 Thanks!
[39] Has this ever happened to any of you guys? I just want to find someone with a similar experience to feel a bit better.
- [40] Go to the hospital.
- [43] When I couldn’t sleep once, I started throwing away all my important, expensive accessories into the trash can one by one and then took the trash out. I thought I was putting them away carefully, but after sleeping and waking up later, I regretted what I’d done. So, I think you should just sleep well again.
[49] >>43 Nothing like that yet, but I do feel like my wallet contents didn’t seem quite right, or there are traces of calls or messages I don’t remember making.
- [44] Where did your girlfriend go?
[51] >>44 She was apparently making dinner for me, but she left quite a while ago. She was worried, but she seemed like a stranger and I couldn’t relax, so I kind of forced her to leave.
[45] I know that the current me is me, but somehow I feel like my height is different than usual, or my voice doesn’t sound right. I start thinking maybe this is the dream now, and maybe I’m really the person I was thinking I was earlier.
- [46] Wasn’t there a scary story like this? The one with a bunch of unknown contacts on a cell phone… Someone find it.
- [47] Don’t start that at this time of night.
[52] Also, I’ve probably never smoked before, but I had this intense craving for a cigarette and went all the way to the nearby convenience store just to buy some. For some reason, I even knew the specific brand number to tell the clerk, but when I actually tried smoking it, I choked horribly.
- [53] Apparently, with multiple personalities, the different personalities don’t share memories.
[56] >>53 I don’t think it’s like that. This is the first time anything like this has happened, and I think I’ve been living normally up until now.
- [64] >>56 Sorry if I said something weird. You just woke up, right? Maybe it was like a dream extending into reality? There are things like lucid dreams, so maybe even if you think you weren’t half-asleep and were clear-headed, stuff like that can happen?
[68] >>64 It felt too real to just be a dream, that’s why I started this thread. It went on for several tens of minutes, which had never happened before, so I got scared.
- [55] Definitely a mental health clinic then. Doctors are professionals, they’ll know more.
[57] >>55 Yeah, probably right. If anything else suspicious happens, I’ll seriously consider it.
- [59] >>57 No, go right away. Don’t run away from the doctor. Do you really think there’s nothing suspicious about your mental state when you ran outside without even putting on your shoes?
[61] >>59 I’m not taking it that seriously, but maybe it really is bad. Maybe this is the pattern where your brain gives out if you keep saying you’re too busy with work.
- [63] >>61 Even if you’re okay now, there’s no guarantee it won’t get worse. It’s definitely easier to get help if you consult a doctor when you first notice symptoms, rather than waiting until you’re in a dangerous stage.
[66] >>63 I never thought I’d have anything to do with psychiatry in my life… I’ll try to go sometime soon.

- [58] Found one. 31 : Tuna-Holding Nameless : 2005/06/27(Mon) 09:45:58 ID:vLg9Gq2N In the fall of 2001. I had a cold and was feeling chills, so I was heading to a hospital in Okubo, holding onto a strap on the Seibu Shinjuku Line. My head was pounding, just throbbing, so I closed my eyes, furrowed my brow, and just endured it. That’s where my memory cuts off. When I came to, it was evening, and the scenery around me was completely unfamiliar. I was wearing clothes I’d never bought, and my hair was dyed brown, even though I’d never dyed it before. I panicked and went into a nearby ramen shop and asked where I was. It was near Fukushima Station in Osaka City, and almost a year had passed. My cell phone was a different model. The address book had about 10 phone numbers listed under single hiragana characters like “Ma” or “Hi,” but none of my acquaintances’ or family’s numbers were there. For some reason, those unknown numbers terrified me, so I threw the phone into a river. I contacted my family from the police station. They were panicking too. A missing person report had been filed for me. Anyway, I went back home, and I still go to a psychiatric hospital once a month. It seems I couldn’t return to my old company, so now I’m working as a temp.
[60] >>58 First time seeing that. If something like that happened, I’d definitely go to the hospital (lol).
- [62] There was also that story about someone infiltrating a weird cult’s facility, getting caught by the leader, then everything went white, and they woke up hospitalized in a completely unknown place, with no knowledge of their parents or the location.
- [67] Sounds like you might have some weird habits. Like keeping a dream journal or something.
[69] >>67 No dream journal, but I’m kinda good at picking up people’s habits and ways of speaking? Which sometimes helps me get on the good side of important people.
- [71] One thing’s for sure, the trigger for this was probably fatigue, so make sure you get proper rest and refresh yourself mentally too.
[73] >>71 Thanks. I was already prone to insomnia, so I pushed myself too hard thinking, ‘I can work multiple times harder than others!’
- [70] I’ve had dreams where I still suspect it might have been another reality. But I was living an even more pointless life than now, so reality is way better, and I decided not to worry about it.
